Caeculus

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Roman mythology, Caeculus was a son of Vulcan. He founded Praeneste (cur: Palestrina). He had a brother, Cacus, and lived by plunder.

King Caeculus appears in Book VII of Virgil's Aeneid as an ally of Turnus against Aeneas and the Trojans. He is said to be "born among the rural herds and found upon the hearth" (Mandelbaum, 1971).
