Talk:CAD/CAM

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What is Computer Aided Manufacturing and Computer Aided Desing/Drawing used for? Also where are some exaples e.g. pictures of CAD and CAM drawings/designs?

Im not so sure this page needs editing, it links to the proper articles for each, instead of the abbreviations. if anything, it needs a simple redirect, but its a cross between two articles... perhaps if they were joined, as they are afterall related, this could link to them, other than that i would probably leave this alone... filling this article seems like duplication of existing data to me S3raph1m 16:43, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Well, CAD and CAM are very different from each other. CAD is 3d or 2d drawings or designs, while CAM is the control of robots or systems by the aid of a computer program. CAD design are most frequently used in the designs of houses in architecture, while CAM is often used to control the cars on a prodution line for example. For an example of CAM software, download the free software 'Google scetch up' which can be found on the google page. Examples of cam software is much harder to find however. Search CAD drawing examples in google images for some examples of models made in CAD. Hope this helps! Contact me @ fangaas@gmail.com for more assistance

As mentioned above, there are articles on CAD and CAM, no need to duplicate. Linked to CAx as this is more general term and can get to the other two from there Freeformer 01:00, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I see this article has returned. I can see a reason for an article that discusses the interface between CAD and CAM (dedicated software for each task and combined software) and the technology used. However a justification is needed to return the page that is just (old) copies of text from the CAD and CAM pages plus comments from others that are not so knowledgeable on the subject.
