Cadeleigh railway station

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cadeleigh railway station was in Devon on the Exe Valley Railway from Exeter St Davids to Dulverton. It opened in 1885 on the section from Stoke Canon to Tiverton as Cadeleigh and Bickleigh but was renamed in 1906. Although Bickleigh is both a bigger village and nearer to the station than Cadeleigh, the name "Bickleigh" was not used in order to avoid confusion with the other Bickleigh between Tavistock and Plymouth, also in Devon, where a station had opened in 1859.

Cadeleigh closed with the rest of the Exe Valley line on 7 October 1963. The station building is now used as the Devon Railway Centre, with an exhibition of railway artefacts. The goods shed, which also survives, houses rolling stock and locomotives owned by the centre.
