[edit] Origin of the Municipality's Name
During pre-Spanish times, the name of the ruler of the area in what is now Cabugao was named Kabu Angao. "Kabu" is a title given to a leader, and "Angao" is an Ilocano term meaning "joke." The said chieftain, who loved jokes, was otherwise a wise, tact, and brave ruler. In honor of the said chieftain, his name was later merged to form the name of the municipality.
