Cabeço Gordo (Portuguese for "fat head") is the highest mountain on the island of Faial in the Azores. The entire island is a massive stratovolcano with a large 2-km wide caldera. The floor of the caldera is about 400 m lower than the rim. The volcano is inactive since the last eruption of 1957/1958, which created Capelinhos.
The Cabeço Gordo includes the municipalities of Cedros, Feteira, Salão, and a couple of more. From here is a fantastic view, on a clear day, of the other three islands of the central group of the Azores; Pico, Sao Jorge and Graciosa.
