[edit] Cherryh template

This template was created as per the discussion at Talk:C. J. Cherryh#Cherryh template?. --Bruce1ee 12:33, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Book title sequence

I've tried to group the titles by series and then by publication sequence within each series. Can someone please check what I've done and amend if necessary. Also please check for any omissions. Thanks. --Bruce1ee 14:28, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Font Size

I'm sorry to say so, but the font size of the template is far far too small, the template is barely legible. I don't think you should try to fit all her work into one template, fit one series or genre in the the template and give a link to the main page. The way it currently is, it hurts the eyes. --Anibas 13:56, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes, the font is a little small, but the reason was to fit all her books into one template. Regarding splitting the template into genres, I'm not really in favour of that, but let's see what others have to say. --Bruce1ee 14:22, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
I have a sight deficiency, to me the font isn't a little small, it is too small (I have to go for 150% to read it at easy). That the template uses italics for the titles doesn't help either. Is it really necessary to have all books in one template? It is just big and ugly, with no real break down except by date. As a navi bar it isn't really helpful, especially since many of the books (like the Foreigner series) don't have separate pages for the books, just series articles. The bar doesn't really lead through her books or the articles about her, it is just one big link list without any helful information. --Anibas 14:43, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
The format isn't unique to Cherryh; it was copied from / influenced by Template:Twain. Not sure that a template with only subsets of her work would make sense. Do you have examples of other writers where multiple templates have been integrated successfully? Fairsing 15:50, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
The Twain template is barely legible, too and probably created by someone who didn't think about how it would appear on other peoples screens, and could be better handled via a list, but the in comparison to the Cherryh template, the Twain template goes to separate article and not to redirects.
Why do we even need such a navigational box, there is a bibliography article, wouldn't it be enough to link that in the articles? --Anibas 17:11, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
I think the box is a nice thing to have for navigational purposes. There are similar boxes for many authors' works on Wikipedia. Here are a couple of other examples: Template:Heinlein (books) and Template:Vampirechronicles. If you would personally rather use the bibliography page for your own navigation purposes, that's fine too. In terms of the links going to shared pages instead of pages on individual books, the solution there is to expand the articles over time so that each book eventually gets its own article, and then the links will work in the manner that you prefer. Please feel free to help write/develop these articles -- your assistance would be most welcome! I'm not sure what to do about the font size issue. I'm sorry you have a vision problem. It seems that there may be a tradeoff between making the template too large/unwieldy for everyone, or too small too read for a minority. Not sure there is an easy way to solve that problem. Thoughts, anyone? Fairsing 18:31, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
The majority of book templates on Wikipedia use a small font, so the Cherryh template is not an exception. Also, if you prefer a list, there is a link to Cherryh's bibliography page in the template title bar, in a larger font. --Bruce1ee 05:44, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template loads closed

Just for information, this template now loads closed, and requires that "show" be clicked to open it. The reason for this is that Template:Navigation, which this template uses, was changed to exhibit this behaviour, apparently due to "popular request". See Template talk:Navigation#Bug fix. --Bruce1ee 14:38, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
