C. F. Thomas

Chennikkara Francis Thomas, popularly known as C. F. Thomas (born July 30, 1939, Changanassery, Kerala, India), is a politician and a member of Kerala Legislative Assembly since 1980. He held the portfolio of minister for rural development in the previous UDF Ministry. He is also the chairman of Kerala Congress, a political party which has its core membership in the Syrian Christian community.
Thomas started his public activities when he was a student, through Kerala Catholic Stundents' League (K.C.S.L.). He was the general secretary of this movement which is popular among Catholic students of Kerala. He entered politics in 1956 as an activist of K.S.U the student’s wing of Indian National Congress. The Kerala branch of Indian National Congress was split in 1964. A group of leaders formed the Kerala Congress party and C. F. Thomas was one among them. He was elected to Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1980, 1982, 1987, 1991, 1996 , 2001 and 2006. He represents the Changanassery constituency to which he was elected for the seventh successive term. He is married to Kunjamma Thomas and has a son and 2 daughters.
