Shawn Thomas, better known by his stage name C-Bo (abbr. for Cowboy) is an African-American rapper. He was born on September 26, 1971 and grew up in the Garden Block of Sacramento, California. He has sold over 3.5 million albums independently since 1993.[citation needed] He is currently signed to Cashville Records. [1]

Beginning with his 1993 debut, Gas Chamber, C-BO made it clear that he planned on surprising rap listeners with his controversial lyrics, which would eventually land him in jail. Of course, the hardcore Californian's steady rise towards continued popularity increased year by year, with an album being released nearly every year following his jaw-dropping debut. With album titles such as the Autopsy and Tales From the Crypt, C-BO quickly attained a cult following, similar to the small legions of listeners swarming perverse rappers such as Esham, Brotha Lynch Hung], and Three Six Mafia. Yet as C-BO began to mature as an artist, he moved away from exploitative themes, though he still ranked among the West Coast's most extreme hardcore rappers. By the time his 1998 album, Till My Casket Drops, the Cali rapper found himself debuting at number 41 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart, an amazing feat for such an underground rapper. In 2000 -- after oddly being jailed in 1998 for his lyrical content -- he released Enemy of the State on Warlock, continuing his climb to recognition.

[edit] Other Arrests Over Lyrics

X-Raided - Shortly after releasing his 1992 debut album Psycho Active, Anarea Brown (X-Raided) was convicted for the murder of a woman during a home invasion robbery. He has stated that he believed the home he was invading was that of rival gang member's. The album's violent lyrics were cited as evidence at his trial. He is currently serving a 31 year sentence.

Mac Dre - After recording his first three albums between 1989 and 1991, Mac Dre was charged with conspiracy to commit bank robbery. His record label, Romp Productions, and his many references to "Romper Room" in his songs, coincided with a Vallejo robbery gang of the time calling themselves the "Romper Room Gang" and responsible for the robberies of many area banks and pizza parlors. The Robberies even had small segment on the television show Unsolved Mysteries. Hicks was alleged to be a member of the gang which also included Bay Rapper J-Diggs.[2] Hicks was sentenced to five years in prison in 1992.[3] During his sentenced Hicks released several albums. Back N Da Hood EP and Young Black Brotha, the albums strongly criticized the authorities especially the Fresno county police.
