I added quite a lot of information to this page, mostly from Prof Bury's History of the Later Roman Empire Volume 1. I left some of the information such as the bit about Eastern Romans not having as much regard for hereditary positions, although i had never heard of this attitude.

You might want to modify some of the paragraph which references Bury, since it seems a little too close to the original wording. I'm sure the copyright has expired but if you're simply incorporating original text then it should mabye be stated or something. Vincent-D 10:15, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
