Byzantine captivity
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term 'Byzantine Captivity' refers to a series of pontiffs with Eastern, or Byzantine, origins. This period stretches from Pope John V to Pope Zachary - 685 till 752 - where only one pontiff, Pope Gregory II, was not of ‘Eastern’ extraction.[1]
