Byrsonima is a genus in the Malpighiaceae, a family of about 75 genera of flowering plants in the order Malpighiales. Byrsonima comprises over 135 species of trees, shrubs, and subshrubs found in the New World tropics and subtropics from from southern Mexico, southeastern Florida, and the Caribbean to southeastern Brazil.
