[edit] Feel of the page
This page reads like an advertisement. A bit easier on the superlatives, guys? Anaholic 11:47, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] History
Shouldn't the history of byond be listedAtomic1fire 04:39, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
I personally love byond, so simple, yet deep. Like a fine lass. Jump in, tell em' Scoobert sent ya. --Scoobert
- Tell who, the lass or BYOND? YMIHere 07:18, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Why not both? - 24.1.151.35 03:30, 3 Feb 2005 (UTC)
In my opinion, the "Recommended Games" section is little more than a blatant advertisement for specific BYOND games. Remember; the goal of Wikipedia is to present information, not opinions :)
Anybody care to agree or disagree with me?
-Kujila
I agree, to a small degree. Part of informing includes pointing people where to go. I think a link to chatters, and maybe a few other byond endorsed things.
-Scoobert
Perhaps change the section to a brief explanation of top ranked games, and provide linkage to http://games.byond.com/hub/TopRankedGames? Makes more sense to me.
-Gathin
I think a description of some of the older games that were popular statisticly with an overview of them would be acceptable. If not that then a link to some of the top ranked games.
-Vessol
I capitalized the letters in 'Byond' in the section about version 4.0's release. 'BYOND' is an acronym and should be treated that way.

[edit] Not the place for a tutorial
Someone, apparently with the key "Dark Prince" on BYOND, felt the need to add a tutorial (and a bad one at that) to the bottom of the page. I removed it. Popisfizzy 00:13, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Hello World!" example
Is there any reason that
mob/Login() ..() usr << "Hello World!"
was changed to the following?
mob Login() world << "Hello World!"
There are several other things that would work just as well. I don't see a reason for the needless change, and I would like to know who did it, and what there reasoning behind this change was. One thing will work just as well as the other, and the change was rather pointless. Popisfizzy 00:59, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- Well, while I didn't make the change, I imagine it's because the new version is what's given in the DM Guide. VegJed 05:52, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Actually, the original is probably more acceptable. 84.71.220.75 13:38, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
OK, I've re-added the ..() after someone deleted it. I think it should be in there because including it is simply good BYOND programming practice. The DM guide is not the be-all and end-all, some of it is pretty out of date. Unless there is a specific reason to leave it out, leave it in. AderakConsteen 19:17, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hello World examples tend to be using the simplest code to get the "Hello World" message. ..() is /not/ required in achieving this outcome. (I didn't change it, but I believe we should.) Murrawhip 18:45, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Shouldn't "Hello World" be outputted when the server starts, instead of when a client logs into a mob?
- divineopeanut —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.250.78.38 (talk) 15:45, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
No, because this causes the message to be outputted before anyone logs in and is thus not actually seen by anyone. AderakConsteen (talk) 20:06, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
It could be displayed by delaying the output a bit. But, on second thought, you're right- the code should be as simple as possible. I just thought displaying the message when the output device starts is generally more accepted.

[edit] BYOND 4.0 Advertising
BYOND 4.0 is currently not in open testing, and people are just leaking it. Therefore, it shouldn't be advertised, even if BYOND isn't actively going after those who leaked it. If I find any other edits linking to BYOND 4.0 from any site other than BYOND (which must be an official release), I will revert it. Popisfizzy 20:11, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

- Since BYOND 4.0 is now in open beta, should a section be created for it? I haven't had a chance to try it out yet due to connection issues, maybe someone with a bit of experience with BYOND 4.0 can write a short section. Hazman (BYOND Key) (90.241.59.86 12:14, 7 August 2007 (UTC))
- I don't believe it warrants a section of its own, but I do believe that it should be mentioned, as well as some of the additions to BYOND that it brings, such as OpenGL, alpha, 3D sound (yes, this has been out since 3.5, but it was a beta for 4.0), and the new interface stuff. [edit] Criticism and Controversy
I wouldn't have said that the Criticism and Controversy sections were justified. It isn't BYOND's place to control in game activities (such as 'griefers') and these exist in all online games anyway. Likewise for the statement about copyright material. None of these statements cite references either - where, exactly, is this criticism and is it directed at BYOND itself or a BYOND-made game? Also, with the advent of BYOND 4.0, the non-windows versions of BYOND are likely to pick up due to openGL support.

[edit] "DG" Link
Im deleting all the comments about this section. Considering you gave a general idea of how to RIP(Which is the stealing of other peoples games, and sadly commen, although so people do so legally),although the link was removed, I feel that it should have been removed. I also edited the title, to just "DG". If anyone knows what "DG" is, very well. But we dont need, nor want, any more Rips on BYOND. They suck as it is. 17:52, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
