Byaka

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Byaka (Russian: Бяка) is a creature from a Russian-Jewish fairy tale. Byakas live in Byakaland. Traditionally there are three variations of byakas: big, medium, and small. The big byaka usually appears in folklore as a furry, carpetlike creature that refers to itself as "rugged". The belly of the big byaka is blessed with special powers and can be rubbed for luck. The little byaka is typically an orange beast most easily identifyable by its deceptively good looks but awful stench. The medium byaka is a creature of great mystery and magnificent beauty. She is the queen of byakaland (although in some variations of this fairy tale the little byaka plots to overthrow the medium byaka and become the queen of byakaland).
