[edit] Prussian WikiProjects being considered for deletion

This is to inform you that three projects you created, Wikipedia:WikiProject Prussian Regierungsbezirke, Wikipedia:WikiProject Prussian provinces, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Prussian Kreise, are being considered for deletion. Please feel fee to take part in the discussion of these projects on the Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion page. Thank you. Badbilltucker 18:42, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Weird Al" Yankovic

Your question about the link you posted probably can be handled here on the talk page. I reverted the link you added because it doesn't work. Looking at the page I think you meant, though, it's really nothing more than a fansite that doesn't add any new information. Also, I noticed right away that the first paragraph contains two factual errors. --Maxamegalon2000 17:22, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kreise of Posen District

I have proposed a change at Talk:Posen District that affects seven articles which you created. As you are the primary contributor to the articles and the article Posen District, I would value your input. Thanks, Black Falcon 05:02, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

  • P.S. If you don't mind, please reply at the article's talk page, so that any discussion is centralised there. -- Black Falcon 05:02, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP Prussia

Hi Bwood. Great to see that you are back on Wikipedia. While you were away, WikiProject Prussia and its derivatives had lapsed into disuse. After I started up on Wikipedia, I (sort of) restated the main Prussia project - largely as a testing area for the wider-ranging WP Former Countries. I was unable to maintain all of the derivative projects and so I thought it would be easier to merge them back into the main project as sub-projects. The project is still not very active (WPFC takes up most of my time), but if you wish to get back into WP Prussia and help get it running again, I'd like to hear any suggestions that you may have.

Another thing, I was working on different versions of the Kreise navbar that you started on for Posen. My test version is here. I wanted to try come up with something that could be used for all provinces, so I made a similar one for the Rhine Province here. Neither are used yet, and I haven't done anything with them in a while. - 52 Pickup 19:24, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm probably only going to do damage control, protecting the important things. I'll finish updating the other 33 or so Kreise articles, as I can. I had to develop a series of regular expressions to convert the HTML from my wiki articles to convert the links. Your navbar looks great and has my blessing. Let's use it. Let me know where the greatest needs are for moving the WPFC project along and I'll try to assist.
btw, GoogleEarth has some untapped uses for supplemental article media. Layers and the polygon/path tools, for example, can show changing borders, troop movements. Maps can be imported and overlaid, with adjustable transparency. Bwood 14:49, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Alright, I've just changed the format of the navbar. The one that I made up for the Rhine Province doesn't really have enough articles to be fully used - I just wanted to test how the format works for other provinces.
At WPFC, most relevant articles have been tagged with the {{WPFC}} banner, but now it is necessary to assess them all. After that, the group can properly work together on improving the articles. If you would like to help out with that, that would be great. Other issues are the development of formats and content - this has taken up most of my work, particularly the Former Country and Former Subdivision infoboxes and monitoring their use. Do you have any thoughts on what can be done with WP Prussia? I was toying with the idea of turning it into a taskforce of WPFC since the project is still pretty small and is heavily overlapped with WPFC (plus support from the Germany and Poland WPs), but I'm not sure.
I'm pretty new to Google Earth, but I'm always looking out for new types of images. Thanks for that. - 52 Pickup 17:00, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Changes to Prussian counties of Posen

Hello.

I have introduced changes to your great work on Kreise in Posen Provinz. The policy on Wikipedia is that texts be in English, hence Kreise was changed to county, etc. Even if this does not reflect 100% of the original meaning, it's in English, and the linked article explains regional differences country-by-country. Same applies to "Stadtamt" - while it may be difficult to translate to English, it must be expressed in English, simply because of Wikipedia principles.

In a few articles I linked the names to articles using the present-day names of the towns, preserving German names as display names, and German sort order. This is, I believe, a sensible compromise between history and the need to identify these localities.

The NavPosenDistricts template was missing in a few articles. I don't know whether the missing template was your intention, or simply vandalism, so I restored it in each article.

Once again, big respect to your work on these historic localities.

LMB (talk) 10:37, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Well I don't agree with the changes in principal, but since I've given up contributing (and have had to force myself to not care), it is no big deal. As far as I'm concerned, some of Wikipedia's rules are often misguided and not in the best interest of the audience.
The missing template references were probably vandalism, but not as big a deal as the loss of so much useful data that the WikiNazis stripped out. If you want to really contribute, you could restore the vast tables of data (stripping out the links to the Posen website that contains even more useful information, to avoid incurring the wrath of the Machine). A word processor could make the process semi-automatic.
Best of luck, thanks for the kind words, hope to see the articles improved in a positve direction someday. Feel free to copy anything from the wiki that I'm working on (see the links in the deleted material of any Kreis article). Of course it would take one person over a year working day and night, to transfer it all, but since you can't link to it...Bwood (talk) 06:43, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Template:ArticleMapPrussianProvinces

A tag has been placed on Template:ArticleMapPrussianProvinces requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 22:58, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kreis Birnbaum

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Kreis Birnbaum, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Kreis Birnbaum.
