Butiama

Butiama is the birthplace of Julius K. Nyerere, the first president of Tanzania. It is one of the wards of the Musoma Rural District within the [[Mara Region]it is also the local residencial area of the Wazanaki tribe which is believed to be the smallest tribe in the region].

Several things have taken the moniker Butiama because of its significance to Tanzanian history, such as the MV Butiama which is a ship that travels from Mwanza to Ukerewe and back.

According to the 2002 Tanzania National Census, the population of Butiama was 15,383.
