ICT[who?] related Business objectives are usually an abstract idea for the advancement of a business, such as "improve customer service" that can be converted into a measurable result, such as "call waiting time is reduced to 10 seconds". The concept of articulating such objectives may seem simple, however they usually require considerable thought.
The idea of well-defined business objectives is essential to implement ideas of IT Governance. Without business objectives it is difficult to test whether IT solutions actually solve any business problems that the organisation had. Instead they may have simply addressed problems that the IT department had.
