[edit] Coords

Hi Burntnickel, thanks for your numerous updates to the List of volcanoes in the United States of America. Just one note about coords, when you use degree-minute-seconds notation, it is best not to use decimals on the arcseconds. The reason is that 1 arcsecond is only about 100 ft for all latitudes and for longitudes at the equator, and less for longitudes elsewhere. The locations of summits are not generally known to better horizontal resolution than that, so decimals are not needed. Also, in dd°mm′ss″ notation, it is standard to include leading zeroes for degrees and minutes, e.g. 33°02′07″. And if using dd.ddd° notation, three decimal places is sufficient.

I know that lots of mountain articles currently have coordinate problems (including having decimal arcseconds), but feel free to fix those ones too if you see them. I usually try to fix coord problems if I see them while making other edits. Thanks. --Seattle Skier (See talk tierS) 11:14, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

I think that it is preserving leading zeroes properly, if they're typed in. I've haven't used {{coord}} yet, only the deprecated {{coor dms}}, but both seem OK per these examples:
The leading zeroes appear to be there (at least in my browser). But I think if you enter decimal degrees, then it eats the leading zeroes and somtimes even converts incorrectly:
I'm not sure why the template doesn't just display dd.ddd° if that's the way a number is entered. I'm going to ask about this and the conversion errors on the template's talk page. --Seattle Skier (See talk tierS) 18:06, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hopi Buttes Volcanic Field

I was dealing with a speedy delete request and the redirect seemed like the better idea. Coliseum Maar and Hopi Buttes Volcanic Field both redirect to Hopi Buttes volcanic field you can use the history tab to find anything worth merging. Otherwise, I think everything is the way you wanted it. If you need more or I did not get you request right, let me know. Vegaswikian 22:53, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
