1999 was a tough year for business due to the Asian Economic crises. However, despite the uncertainties faced by our country, Mr Ding Dong took bold steps and pursued their idea of opening a quick service restaurant offering a different kind of hamburger as compared to the existing ones in the market in terms of process, taste serving portions, price plus. It is a hamburger that can be designed by the consumer depending on his mood, appetite and craving.
If one may borrow a famous quote “Success is just an idea away”, this holds true for the Jose Brothers. The Designer’s Burger was just an idea, until they converted and materialized this idea into a reality when the first Burger Time outlet in Ortigas was launched in 1999. Whilst, they were steadfast in their ideas, the Brothers were also anxious on how the people will respond to the new products. However, the apprehension was immediately replaced with enthusiasm when people who have tried the products put in a good word about their guaranteed satisfaction when they savor the burgers. Deluged by curious burgers enthusiasts who were readily converted as loyal customers, there were nights when people would line up and wait for their turns to get served. Familied from Laguna, Parañaque, Makati would troop to the store even on weekdays to try new hamburger craze in town.
While Burger Time was gaining awareness and consistently receiving endorsements from those who have tried the food offerings, the owners also received some feedback regarding the waiting time. Thus, an information campaign on the priority for Freshness was launched claiming that Burger Time cooked only upon orders.
As the clients from all over Metro Manila continue to frequent Ortigas store, the 2nd outlet was planned on the 6th month of their operation. Because of the proximity of Ortigas store to Meralco, the Lopez Family became their regular clients and believed in the product concept that they offered Burger Time to open a store at Rockwell. During those days, Rockwell land was not yet fully developed. There were only two multinational companies and a foreign coffee brand. The 2nd Burger Tme outlet at Rockwell gave them the mileage, increased awareness and until this warning imprinted the image of a foreign brand and company when in reality Burger time is managed by an ALL FILIPINO team.
The opening of Rockwell did not affect the performance of their first outlet. Given this indicator, the company took another step to address the needs of the southern crowd and opened their 3rd store in West Gate Alabang. The same good thing happened for Alabang outlet. It turned out to be high performing outlet, as it has NOW become a destination place for residents from south of Manila.
The challenge of expansion goes on*** As of this writing, there are 9 company owned and 4 franchise stores. These Franchise stores are located in Magallanes, Greenhills, Banilad Town Center in Cebu and recently Hobbies of Asia in Macapagal Avenue.
