Burton Shipley

H. Burton Shipley was the first head coach of the Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team. He coached his alma mater from 1923 to 1947, compiling a 243-199 record.
A 1914 graduate of the University of Maryland, Shipley also coached the baseball team from 1924 to 1960. Shipley Field, where the school's baseball team plays its home games, is named after him.
