Burntside Lake is a 7,139 acre lake located in 3 miles northwest of Ely, Minnesota in St. Louis County, Minnesota. Its western boundary adjoins the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Historic Burntside Lodge is located on its shore.
Native fish include Bluegill, Golden shiner, Green Sunfish, Lake Trout, Lake Whitefish, Northern Pike, Rainbow Smelt, Rock bass, Shorthead redhorse, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, White sucker and Yellow Perch.
There are over 100 islands in the lake, including Lost Girl Island, named after the legend of a Burntside Lodge employee who disapeared in the 1920s. Her canoe, lunch, clothes and paddle were found on the island, but no trace of her was ever found.[3]
