Burning Springs, West Virginia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Burning Springs is an unincorporated town in Wirt County, West Virginia, USA. It takes its name from the natural gas which bubbled up through the spring and would burn when exposed to fire. The first well drilled to obtain oil was began in 1859. However other wells drilled here to produce salt water actually produced oil as much as twenty years earlier making Titusville, Pa a late comer to oil production.
