Burj al Luq Luq Community Centre and Society

The Burj al Luq Luq Community Centre and Society is an independent organisation working to address social problems among some of Jerusalem's marginalised sectors of society. The Centre's name translates into English as, "The Tower of the Stork". The land upon which the centre is built, has been historically referred to "Burj al Luq Luq"; musters of storks would rest on this Old City hilltop as they migrated across the city.
The Burj al Luq Luq Centre was established in 1991 as a community-based social centre, rendering services to the inhabitants of the Old City of Jerusalem. The centre predominantly operates programs with women, children and youth as its main beneficiaries. With continued support, it aims to grow in capacity, maturing to augment services offered to those in need, across Jerusalem at large. The centre is situated in the Bab Hutta neighbourhood, on a hilltop inside the Muslim Quarter of the Old City; and where the Northern and Eastern walls of the Old City meet. The centre overlooks Jerusalem's most conspicuous landmark, the Dome of the Rock.
