Burhani Hospital

The Burhani Hospital, is located at the heart of a congested business area where the paper market is located, on Tayebjee Road, Garikhata, Saddar Town, Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.
The Burhani Hospital, earlier called the Abdulhusain Marvi Maternity Home. the hospital established and managed by the Dawoodi Bohra Community. Mr. Abdulhusain Karimji Marvi donated a piece of land, to start the Abdulhusain Marvi Maternity Home for the members of the Dawoodi Bohra community. On June 1, 1945, the management of the maternity home was handed over to the Burhani Board which continued to oversee the functions of the clinic till January 2004. The board at that time was also managing another hospital, now called the Saifee Hospital. On May 27, 1978, the board upgraded and converted the facility into a full-fledged general hospital. Thus the Burhani Hospital Trust was established and re-registered on January 13, 2004.
The hospital is a four-storey building, with neatly laid-out marble floors and a reception area at the entrance. Space is vital and each corner is utilized to the maximum. It is the only distinguishable hospital in the area and till today continues to serve the lower and middle class of society. Equipped with modern facilities, the hospital strives to give the best health service to society. Some of the city's best and renowned doctors practise at Burhani Hospital both as full-time and visiting specialists.
The Intensive Care Unit is an 8-bed facility equipped with modern machines and has an ECG, Defibrillator, Central Monitor, Multi Parameter Monitors and Ventilators. The Dialysis Unit offers 24 hours service to kidney patients and is equipped with Dialysis Machines, a Water Purifier and Water Dialyser reprocessing system. The 2 Operation Theatres cater to both minor and major operations related to General Surgery. In the X-Ray Radiology department an average of 900 X-rays of all kinds are taken each month. The laboratory is a modern certified lab equipped to undertake various pathology tests. Burhani's sophisticated Ultra Sound Unit provides Whole Body Colour Doppler Ultrasound and Easote Biomedica Colour Doppler Scanner with phased array and high frequency probes.
A huge complex is being constructed by the community which encompasses a multi-story building for the Bohra Community Centre. The Burhani Trust under a signed agreement has acquired four floors which will be directly linked through a bridge on the fourth floor that will join the complex with the present hospital. The outlay for the 4 floors has been designed by Mr. Maqsood Alvi who has the distinction of designing portions of the Aga Khan Hospital, Karachi. Once completed the building will bring state of the art medical facilities to the residents of the paper market and its surrounding areas.
