Buraban
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Buraban is a popular Japanese slang term for wind ensemble or concert band. Historically, the term is derived from the English "brass band", which is pronounced "burasubando" in Japanese. This was later shortened (using the Japanese method of abbreviation) to become simply "buraban." The term is often used to refer to school bands, which are a very popular extracurricular activity among junior high school and high school girls (who are commonly called "kogal" in Japanese). Buraban is also the title of a new videogame released in July 2006 by gamemaker Yuzu-Soft, that — like many Japanese videogames of the bishojo game or eroge genre — tends to romanticize and even fetishize the world of schoolgirls.
