Image:Bundi palace1990.jpg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a cropped (by 50%) and reduced (by 20%) version of the photograph "Sukh Mahal building, on the bank of Jaitsagar Tank, Bundi." of the Sukh Niwas Palace on the edge of the Jait Sagar tank at Bundi, Rajasthan by Gunpatrao Abajee Kale, c.1900. It was used as a summer palace by the Maharajas of Bundi State and was the scene of festival processions. Rudyard Kipling stayed in the Sukh Niwas Palace and got inspiration for his book 'Kim' during his stay. I (Sanjay Tiwari 20:41, 3 October 2006 (UTC)) downloaded the image from the website: [1] for use in this article on Rudyard Kipling. Since the photographer may have passed away less than 70 years ago, the image may still be under copyright under U.S. copyright law. The image is being uploaded for fair use in the article Rudyard Kipling.

[edit] Fair Use Rationale

Although the image Bundi_palace1990.jpg may still be under copyright, I (Sanjay Tiwari 20:41, 3 October 2006 (UTC)) feel that it qualifies for fair use under U.S. copyright law because:

  1. it is being used only in the article on Rudyard Kipling in Wikipedia
  2. it is a cropped (by 50%) and reduced (by 20%) version of the original image, so it will not affect the commercial value of the original
  3. the image is famous, since it was at that location that Rudyard Kipling conceived the idea of his famous novel Kim.
