Category:Buntings
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The bird family Emberizidae contains the buntings as well as the American sparrows, and other birds considered allied to them. It has undergone heavy revision in recent times. Many species formerly placed here are now moved elsewhere, namely in the Thraupidae (tanager family).
This category collects birds called "buntings" and/or traditionally placed in the Emberizidae, regardless of their actual relationships. Its contents do not form a natural group but rather a motley assemblage of songbirds of similar shape and habits.
- For the family's current genera, see Category:Emberizidae.
