Bunzaburo Kawagishi

Bunzaburo Kawagishi, 川岸文三郎,(1882 – 1957) Lieutenant-General of the Imperial Japanese Army

Aide-de-Camp to the Emperor from 1924 to 1925. In reserve until 1929 when he was made commanding officer of the 1st Imperial Guards Regiment. In 1931 he was again Aide-de-Camp to the Emperor until 1934 when he was attached to the Main Armaments Factory. He was then made the commander of the IJA 11th Independent Mixed Brigade from 1935 to 1936.

Attached to the 12th Depot Division in 1936, he then became its commander later in the year, and then Commander of the IJA 20th Division, in Korea. After the outbreak of the Marco Polo Bridge Incident he moved his Division to North China, taking part in the Beiping–Hankou Railway Operation under the North China Area Army. He returned to Japan in 1938 to be the Commander in Chief of the Eastern Defence Army until 1939 when he retired.
