Bungeishunjū (magazine)

Bungeishunjū is a leading Japanese monthly magazine published by Bungeishunjū. The magazine was started by writer Kikuchi Kan in 1923 in tandem with the founding of Bungeishunjū. The name of the magazine came from the title of the literary review column in the magazine Shinchō by Kan.
The magazine covers a wide range of topics from politics to sports. Each issue of the magazine usually contains about 30 articles by politicians, researchers, journalists or non-fiction writers. The magazine is also known for having an anti-leftist stance. In fact, the magazine rarely features articles by members of Japanese Communist Party or Social Democratic Party.
The magazine also grants literary awards every year. February issues announce receivers of The Reader's Prize (文藝春秋読者賞 Bungeishunjū?). March and September issues prestigious Akutagawa Prize. June issues Ohya Non-fiction Prize. July issues Matsumoto Seichō Prize. And December issues Kikuchi Kan Prize.
