Buna S or Styrene-Butadiene (SBR) is an elastomeric copolymer consisting of styrene and butadiene. It has good abrasion resistance and good aging stability. SBR is stable in: mineral oils, fats, aliphatic, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons. The production process is initiated by sodium.
The rubber was named Buna S, were Bu stands for butadiene, na for sodium (natrium) in German and S for styrene.

- Typical applications: pneumatic tires and tubes; heels and soles; gaskets
