Bum-Jae You

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dr. Bum-Jae You is a Korean robot scientist working at the Intelligent Robotics Research Center, Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). He collaborated with Dr. Kyung Shik Roh, of the Mechatronics Center of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. to produce the network-based humanoid robot 'Mahru 2', an upgrade of Mahru 1. Mahru 2 can recognize voices, faces, obstacles and moving objects. It bows down to greet people, and can dance, keeping its balance whilst making fluent whole body movements, according to Dr You. It can walk at up to 1.0 km/h. Network-based humanoids communicate with a server through a wireless network, sending images and voice data for the server to analyze. The server then sends back commands to the robot about how to behave and respond to its situation.
