Bulphan is a village in the borough of Thurrock in the East of England. It is pronounced 'Bull-ven' though newcomers often mispronounce it as 'Bul-fan'.
Bulphan forms part of the Orsett ward of Thurrock Council, and is part of the Thurrock parliamentary constituency. Following a boundary review, it will form part of South Basildon and East Thurrock for the next general election.
It is located 21 miles (34 km) east north-east of Charing Cross in London. The Upminster post town forms a long, thin protrusion eastwards over the M25 motorway and the Greater London boundary in order to include the village.
The village has only a few streets and has a park, a church, a village hall and a corner shop. It is fairly isolated and has just two bus services operating hourly, the 565 to Brentwood Station (via West Horndon) and the 374 to West Horndon or Grays Bus Station, depending on direction. Recently the 104 bus service was extended from Laindon Tesco to connect Bulphan with Basildon, three times daily. School buses also connect Bulphan with Palmers College in Grays, and the 269 service stops on the A128 en route to Thurrock College. The nearest station is a 3 miles walk away.
The village is quiet despite being just off the A128, providing a safe environment very close to major urbanisation.
