Bukan, Azerbaijan

Bukan (in Kurdish also called: Bokan) is a city south of Lake Urmia about 1,300 metres above sea level. It lies in the West Azarbaijan province of Iran.According to the 2006 census, its population was 149,340 [1] making it the fourth most populous city of the province.

The name "Bukan" is derived from Kurdish word "Bûk" meaning "bride" so the word Bukan means "The Brides".[citation needed] The population of Bukan is Kurdish.[citation needed]
