Talk:Buildings of Iowa State University

[edit] Goals of this page
For ISU-centric people (not Henry Gilman or Carrie Chapman Catt) who are well known outside of ISU) I think a somewhat detailed biography is needed, much like what I've done with some of the first presidents but more (though not done with all of them). Probably involves a trip to Special Collections and getting some of the bio stuff them.
- Year of birth & death
- Location of birth & death
- Education: college, year, major/degree
- Notable achievements: awards, roles/positions
- Family notes
If known outside of ISU (has its own wikipedia page or should have one) then a link should be sufficient with perhaps a condensed biography as it directly applies to ISU.
For buildings:
- Year constructed
- Original purposes if different from current
- Major changes/renovations
- Who it's named after should be evident from where it's located (subcategory of the person)
- Cost, uses, departments, etc.
- Did it replace another building? (e.g., Beardshear replaced Office Building)
- Was it originally named something and then renamed afterward (e.g., Frederiksen Court, Beardshear Hall, Agriculture Hall, Engineering Hall)
For streets:
- Location in Ames
- Perhaps a list of what's on the street if applicable (e.g., campustown is on Welch)
And pictures, pictures, pictures. Come snow fall I'll take my camera around and shoot some of the buildings, and again come late spring/summer.

[edit] Future size
The article is already 50 KB plus images in size. I'm worried at how big it will be in the future and how to break it up without making links difficult to create....and having to change them all to point at the other articles.

- Hm, I thought the thumbnails were included in the article size. I personally feel okay with the current setup, it has excellent headers and most sections are brief. Adm58 01:02, Apr 5, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Page length
Heh, I just noticed this page is #487 on the list of longest pages. :) Cburnett 01:47, May 3, 2005 (UTC)
I'm going to work on splitting off a few of the more notable buildings at ISU into their own articles because this page is pretty massive at the moment. At this time, I'm planning on making articles about the Campanile, the Memorial Union, Stephens Auditorium, and perhaps a few more. Also, I noticed that Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum have their own articles already, so I'll add links to the full articles within this article. Etphonehome 01:37, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
