Buitenkaag (Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, and lies about 8 km northeast of Leiden. The name Buitenkaag (Outer Kaag) refers to the town Kaag and the surrounding lake area, the Kagerplassen.
) is a town in theIn 2001, the town of Buitenkaag had 247 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.08 km², and contained 107 residences.[1] The wider statistical area of Buitenkaag has a population of around 410.[2]
One of the most distinctive buildings in Buitenkaag is "Gemaal de Leeghwater", a pumping station named after Jan Leeghwater. Built in the mid-1800s to reclaim the Haarlemmermeer lake, it is still operational today.
