Build a School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Build a School is a UK registered charity (Registration: 1118476) who help raise funds to build schools.
Their first school was launched in September and is now being used. Since then the charity has got a lot of media coverage from the BBC, ITV and the KM newspaper.
[edit] Mbelekete Primary School
Mbelekete was the first school funded by Build a School grants. The cost of the school was estimated at £40,000 to build, and has five classrooms which replaces the old "school" in the village church. The modern school was built by a local builder called Jack who has been involved in similar projects in the past. Although exact details of the school haven't been confirmed it's suspected the school fulfilled its plans.
[edit] Endorsement
The charity has received many endorsements in recent weeks. Theo Walcott, an Arsenal and England football (soccer) player has become involved, signing memorabilia - most of which is to be sold off to raise funds, whilst other bits will be given to the villagers.
As well as Walcott, the charity has been spotlighted by Private Eye editor and Have I Got News for You panellist Ian Hislop.
