Buguias is a 4th class municipality in the province of Benguet, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 33,177 people in 6,312 households.
The name Buguias came from the word Bogey-yas, a popular Igorot settlement during the pre-Spanish time. The spelling was modernized and spelled as Buguias" by Spanish authorities. Just like Bogey-yas, other names such as Loo, Tucucan, Tinoc, Buguias, Abatan, Ambuse (now Kabayan), Lutab, Karao, Bokkod, Acupan, Kafagway (now Baguio City), Benguet (now La Trinidad), Mankayan, Lepanto were popular Igorot settlements during the Spanish times.
