Bugaboo (baby carrier)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bugaboo is a pram, or a baby carrier. It's produced by the Dutch Bugaboo International B.V. and is manufactured in Taiwan. [1]
Max Barenbrug got the idea of designing a functional stroller for use in the city and in leisure activities for his final project of his graduation. He graduated with honors from the Design Academy of Eindhoven in 1994. Max Barenbrug, along with his brother-in-law Eduard Zanen, tried to sell the design but stroller manufacturers thought it to be unviable and too revolutionary. So, Barenbrug and Zanen decided to manufacture the stroller themselves. In 1999 the Bugaboo Frog made its debut in the Netherlands. In 2003 it was introduced in the United States. [2]
They have four models: the Frog, the Cameleon, the Gecko and the Bee. Since the debut of the Frog in the United States, the popularity of the brand has been boosted with celebrites using the pram for their children. The Bugaboo also appeared several times on television, for example in the program Sex and the City. [3] The Bugaboo Cameleon won the Red dot design award in 2007 in the categories of leisure, sports, wellness, and caravanning. [4]

The Bugaboo Frog comes in seven colors: black, blue, red, grey, sand, orange and aubergine. The Bugaboo Gecko comes in only three colors: black, green and red. The Bugaboo Cameleon can be customised in several fabrics. Its canvas base colors (which can't be changed) are: dark grey, red, sand, blue and denim. The trim color is what can be changed whenever the owner wishes to do so. The available trim colors are: pink fleece, black fleece, sand fleece, red fleece, orange fleece, green fleece, yellow fleece, blue fleece, black canvas, dark brown canvas, off white canvas, red canvas, sand canvas and denim. The Bugaboo Bee has its seat always in plain black, but its sun canopy it's available in several different colors: black, red, yellow, blue, dark khaki, and soon in pink.
[edit] Accessories
Although each Bugaboo model comes with the basics, such as the bassinet, a mosquito net, rain cover, underseat bag, and even a 2 year warranty, there are still many additional accessories that can be purchased for each model. Examples of these add-ons are items such as the baby nest, sun canopy, car seat adaptors, cup holder, diaper bag, foot muff, parasol, and transport bag with wheels. Prices for these accessories range from approximately $25 to $160 each.
[edit] Price
Although the Bugaboo is an expensive stroller it hasn't affect its sale all over the US and Europe. The Bugaboo Frog costs around $760, the Gecko and the Cameleon around $900, and the Bee $529. Bugaboo aggressively enforces retail price maintenance to artificially keep prices of its strollers high.[citation needed] The Bugaboo is seen as one of the most stylish prams, and even though it is much more expensive than most competitors, it also has a reputation for durability.[citation needed]
