[edit] Discussion
This page is still under contrustion. Can someone help me fix it? I just learned that some of these are non canon slayers, so we need alot of help editing this. Some are written by canon authours like Joss, so those are canon. Others are just bogus, and not connected to Joss whatsoever, like India Cohen. So we need alot of help sorting this up. -Lil_Flip246
I dunno if the Tales of the Slayer stories would count as canon: people like Nancy Holder, who weren't really associated with Joss, wrote stories in there. I don't know if those stories could really be considered cannon....also, you could add in that Buffy's predecessor in the Whedonverse was a pretty unattractive female, because it's been hinted at in the series very many times. --Ooks
Only the TALES OF THE SLAYERS ("S") is CANON. Joss says he doesn't bother reading non canon books, cause there is no point. He says they could make buffy have an abortion or something, but that is just their fanfic. Only stories associated with Mutant Enemy, Joss, and Buffy writers are CANON. -Lil_Flip246
So, since Tales of the Slayer is NOT canon, why are Thessily and Peri (among others from Tales of the Slayer) on the chart? They should be removed. That was the point I was trying to make. And I'm sorry for misspelling canon! --Ooks
I told on the edit summary that I wasn't sure yet whether SOME of these were canon or not. So I hope that clears your quesyion. -Lil_Flip246
"Only Canon Slayers are featured in this list. You may notice some Non Canon slayers, cause this page is still in development and re-editing."
Plus this is what I wrote on the headline. -Lil_Flip246
I kept the Peri because it was written by a Mutany Enemy/Buffy TV Writer, Jane Espenson, which makes it canon. The only canon story in those non canon novels. Someone should make a non canon salyer timeline. -Lil_Flip246
Okay, well, I'm sorry for the confusion. I also was wondering whether or not to consider things written by Rebecca Rand Kirshner or Jane as canon, and when I consulted my friend at the Buffy boards about it, he said that even if people like Jane are closer to Joss Whedon's mind than the other writers, it doesn't make anything they write instantly canon. So, I'm not sure, but Peri could just be kept on here.
On another note, Yuki Makumura should be here, because even if she was in those non-canon comics mostly, she was seen in the last picture in last story, Tales, in Tales of the Slayers. (wow, a lot of repeat of words in that sentence) --Ooks
Okay add her then. Which story was she featured in the comic? -Lil_Flip246
Why did someone write unattractive slayer? -Lil_Flip246 Anyways, someone should make pages for each of these canon slayers.
Can someone please add Fray to the list of slayers. I haven't read the comics so I don't know much about her. -Lil_Flip246
You just saw her picture in the last story, 'Tales' (with Fray). Uh, that was me with the whole unattractive slayer thing, because there are various hints throughout the television series that Buffy's predecessor was not too attractive.
I'll add Fray.
--Ooks
What are the hints? Anyways, I checked google, and Buffy fansites, and Yuki Makumura has ONLY appeared on a NON CANON comic. So I don'y think she belongs in this list. Again, someone should make a non canon slayer list, which excludes Buffy and co.
I agree with you on that fact, but in the Tales of Slayers story 'Tales', which is canon, she is pictured among the other canon slayers. Here's a picture, she's the tallest one pictured. http://www.pylia.co.uk/tales_of_the_slayers.htm That's pretty much the only reason I included her, because she appears in a canon comic.
--Ooks
Ok, add her. Anyways, can someone make a page for Rachel O' Connor. More info can be found here on Rachel and Yuki, etc..http://www.geocities.com/tales_slayer/ -Lil_Flip246
Can someone/s help us make pages for these canon slayers? Also we need help to fix the format of the list. As you see it looks like it's been done poorly. Can someone who is an expert help us make it more presentable? Thanks. -Lil_Flip246
There's this slayer named "Nubian Goddess" and she's from Tales of the Slayer (Novel), Vol. 2, "The Ghosts of Slayers Past" by Scott Allie. But in this site: http://www.pylia.co.uk/tots_timeline.htm it shows a pic of her. Where is that pic from? Unless it's from Fray or Tales of the Slayers, I won't add it as canon.
I'm might add Mary O'Brian because she was from the Origin, which is apparently an adaptation from the original scripts of the buffy movie. Does that mean that this comic is like the season 7 novel, "Chosen"? If so I'll add her. Slayers like Jing Po are also in this book.
It says that the picture's from Buffy Mag, "Note From The Underground", Part Five, Cliff Richards....I dunno what that is, does anybody read the Buffy magazine? lol...but, I probably would'nt add it.
I was not sure whether or not to add people like Mary O' Brian, Lady Sarah, Jing Po, etc. either. I don't really think it would hurt if we did.
By the way, nice job making it neater!
--Ooks
Can someone please fix the format here? It looks pretty cheap. Can someone please make it look more presentable? -Lil_Flip246
Can someone please make a Yuki page? There's alot of information in the internet about this slayer. Thanks. -Lil_Flip246
Can you guys help me add more canon slayers? Thanks. -Lil_Flip246
I think there are some erros. Can someone fix that? Thanks.
[edit] SLAYERS
I've made pages for SOME of the slayers. I'm trying my best, but I need you're help. Please follow the format of the other slayer pages. Thanks. Please also make pages for non canon slayers. Thanks. I need all you're help because back2school is on monday. I used my free time to work on this. Hopefully you guys will continue to work on this. I may be back in March, unless I have free time. Thanks again. Keep up the good work. -Lil_Flip246
I just want to clear up why I removed the Barmaid Slayer: it specifically says on the BtVS Movie page that it's NOT canon, therefore making slayers such as her invalid unless she's seen in other canon works. --Ooks
[edit] Cleanup tag
I've added a cleanup tag to this article because my initial efforts to do so were clearly far too little to do it justice. The editors working on this page seem not to be aware of Wikipedia style practices, like basic English capitalization rules, wiki list formatting, and other essentials. I would ask that they review WP style pages, starting at Wikipedia:Manual of Style, or at least take a few moments to examine existing pages in the more encyclopedic areas of WP (i.e., not the fan-driven TV show pages, on which I admit I also spend much of my time) to absorb by osmosis some of these style elements.
A few hints:
- English is not German; i.e., we don't capitalize every friggin' noun. In fact, WP style ruthless un-captalizes anything that isn't a proper noun, even in headings and titles (which is why I'm moving this article). "Buffyverse" is a proper noun, and "Slayer" is arguably one by being a title (at least in its use in the Buffyverse), but "timeline" isn't, nor is seppuku, canon, or samurai. When in doubt, read the related WP articles to see how the word is used in text.
- Always look at the results of what you edit. If it doesn't look right (like the current malformatted text in nearly every section of this article), edit another article to see how it formats similar information, and copy that syntax. Or ask a more experienced wiki editor. For the lists in the article's sections, a bulleted format, using an asterisk (*) as the first character of each line, is probably the place to start.
- Unless one is a school spelling-bee champion, one should always use a spellchecker or a dictionary to proof one's text. (Actually, even spelling champs make mistakes, so it's always a good idea.)
- Wiki links are highly advisable when mentioning a topic that has a relevant Wikipedia article, like samurai.
I hope everyone will work to make this and other articles presentable as well as informative. — Jeff Q (talk) 19:53, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
FYI, if you're going to be Conan the Grammarian, "slayer" should NOT be capitalized except when specifically referencing the title of the show (i.e., "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" when referencing the show; "Buffy the vampire slayer" when referencing the character). Proper grammar dictates that job titles are only capitalized when they appear as part of a person's name (such as "President Lincoln," but not "the president") and job descriptions such as "bartender" (which "slayer" is arguably closer to) are never capitalized. We do not capitalize references to Giles being a librarian, thus "slayer", "watcher", etc., shouldn't be either.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.66.241.170 (talk • contribs)
- "Slayer" is capitalised in the published shooting scripts and other official material, so we've been taking our cue from that. --Nalvage 14:44, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding Su-Li and Princess Amirah
About Su-Li and Princess Amirah, those are fanfiction names made up by Helen J. Haslam. Those were just names given to the Slayers, and they are not real. I am not sure about Winny either, as she wrote a fanfiction about that, too. Therefore, since no canon works have given times for Princess Amirah or Winny (I'm pretty sure), it might be time to make an 'Unknown Time' category for the slayers without a designated time. Mayukhers112 16:13, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Canonicity
Nothing in the title suggested this article should only deal with canon slayers, only the introduction suggested that the article should only focus on canon slayers, so I have made the list more complete by adding the uncanon slayers (mostly from Tales of the Slayer), and created the separate article Buffyverse Slayer timeline (canon) to keep canonites happy :)
The details are as filled in as I can manage at the moment - many of the stories don't always reveal everything we would like (name, location, birth, death, and slayer-time), but if any one finds other details whilst reading stories from Tales of the Slayer or anything else and find a birth/death date, location or Watcher name that is not given on this page already, it'd be great if you could add that. - Paxomen 16:47, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sources
Unfortunately, more work needs to be done to source the information on this page. It mentions Mary O'Brian, Lady Sarah, and Jing Po as characters from The Origin, only I just read The Origin a couple of days ago and while it features three similar characters, it doesn't actually mention any names. And this page doesn't refer to any other sources, so, no clue where they came from. If anyone wants to read through the many dozens of novels and comics... that'd be handy ;) Otherwise I guess we could just nab stuff from this [1] site.--Nalvage 21:09, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Speaking of sources, since this page is a list of all known slayers and the actresses who played them (and not just canonical ones), shouldn't credit be given to Kristy Swanson as also having played Buffy, since she was the original? And BTW, "The Origin" is no more canonical than the original movie was. Actually, it's less so, as Joss Whedon was even further removed from it -- the point of "The Origin" was to take the original movie and adjust it enough to bring it in line with the series (that is, vampires "vamp out" and dust, Buffy burns down the gym and Merrick doesn't look like Donald Sutherland anymore), but it's primary source was still the film itself, not Joss' original script, and the revisions were done without any Mutant Enemy involvement (not unlike most of the popular novels that aren't considered canon, either). While Joss has said in interviews that "The Origin" does come close to his original vision for the film (translation, closer than the the film itself ended up being), he still doesn't acknowledge it as canon.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.66.241.170 (talk • contribs)
- Joss has said that the Origin comic, "can pretty much be accepted as canonical". And the comic's writers worked from Joss's original script rather than the film. --Nalvage 14:44, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

[edit] Canon and Non-Canon Slayers
We should seperate this into two lists, because there are non-canon slayers included in this list. Lil Flip246 21:08, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Originally it was two lists, but it was felt that this was excessive, so they were combined. --Nalvage 23:40, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- But shouldn't we notify the viewers that not all the slayers in this list are canon? I mean that slayer and those potentials that Spike killed back in the day aren't canon. Lil Flip246 05:31, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- There was some talk about finding a way to distinguish, but it never came to anything. I thought maybe including pictures of the canon slayers only would be a good nonintrusive way, but the slayers in the Espenson and Kirshner prose stories kinda screw that up. --Nalvage 07:09, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think it is really important that we should notify the viewers which slayers are canon and which are non canon. The non-canon books are basically fanfiction. These non-canon stories often contradict what happens in the two shows and canon comics/books. Lil Flip246 00:36, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Promo Slayers
Please stop misspelling Nayéé'neizgháni (go read your comic again, because that is EXACTLY how it is spelled). Stop deleting Belle Malone and Abigail Cole from the "History of the Slayers" promos just because you haven't seen the promo. It exists. In fact, there's a link to it on the discussion page of those promos. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.196.238.127 (talk) 22:52, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Merge
Another editor recently suggested we merge this into List of minor Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters because most of the characters here are not listed there. Do we really want to add them to that list? The list already includes recurring Slayers like Sineya, Nikki, Xin Rong, Lucy Hanover, Satsu, the Potentials, and more. Adding in characters like "French Slayer mentioned in #17 of the comics" would make that list far too bloated - it's already long and it doesn't even include all recurring characters yet. Most of the characters in the Slayer timeline are simply too minor to warrant mention. I know they're Slayers, but that doesn't equal notability. Redirect the timeline if you want, but I strongly oppose adding one-off characters to the list. Paul 730 14:15, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
I think it's a very useful page as is, and shouldn't be merged. The Slayer Timeline and its list of Slayers in order, whether strictly canon or not, is a useful reference for those interested in just that. and it's too long and unwieldy to just be a chart. I don't mind linking it to other pages, but it reads very nicely as it is, distinct and serving just one focus within the Buffy universe of entries.--Erikacornia (talk) 04:55, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
