Budyonnovsk

Budyonnovsk (Russian: Будённовск, also spelled Budennovsk) is a town in Stavropol Krai, Russia. Formerly known as Svyatoy Krest and Prikumsk. Population: 65,687 (2002 Census); 55,350 (1989 Census). The town was founded in 1799 by Armenian settlers from Nagorno-Karabakh as Surb Khach (Սուրբ Խաչ), meaning holy cross in Armenian.
The Budyonnovsk hostage crisis took place here on June 1995.
