Buddy Nielsen

James Anthony "Buddy" Nielsen (born February 18, 1984) is the lead singer for the rock band Senses Fail[1].

Nielsen formed Senses Fail in 2002, when he was 18 years of age. He recruited members through an advertisement on the Internet a year before the formation of the band. The current drummer, Dan Trapp, read the article and brought friends Dave Miller and Garrett Zablocki from two bands he had played with previously. Later, the bass player Mike Glita, former bass player for Tokyo Rose joined the lineup[2].

Buddy Nielsen grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey, the son of Guiding Light/As The World Turns soap opera actors Tom Nielsen ("Floyd Parker") and Lisa Brown ("Nola Reardon Chamberlain"/"Iva Snyder Benedict"). He has a sister, Victoria, and two stepbrothers. Buddy himself appeared on the Guiding Light for a short time as an infant playing "Anthony James Chamberlain". Buddy played defense on the lacrosse team, the Ridgewood Maroons, at Ridgewood High School.

Nielsen has a series of tattoos, including a New Jersey (Sparrow) tattoo on his left hand and the words "Poison Girl" on his neck. He also has a tattoo on one of his shoulders of Jesus as the Devil. Jesus is depicted as red with a look of death on his face, as well as horns and a halo. His most well-known tattoo is the words "follow your bliss" across his chest. This tattoo is mentioned in multiple of Senses Fail's songs, including "Can't Be Saved" off the album Still Searching, as well as "Irony of Dying on Your Birthday". The words are in reference to the work of philosopher Joseph Campbell, who endorsed the ideology of "Follow Your Bliss" as to live the life you ought to be, enjoying it as it should.

Buddy is one of the characters in the Fuse - Taste of Chaos Online Fighting Game. His character is based largely on Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, as evidenced by his move where he throws his microphone at the opponent to bring him closer.
