Buckshaw Village railway station is due to open around April 2009 subject to plans being finalised by Network Rail in the next few months. The station will be built in Buckshaw Village, formerly the Royal Ordnance Factory site, ROF Chorley in the village of Euxton, in the same location as the ROF Halt station that was once there but was knocked down in the early 2000s.
According to Richard Watts , the Rail Projects Manager at Lancashire County Council, when the station opens between March - May 2009 it has been agreed that it will be run by Northern Rail. The station will be manned Monday to Saturday with a limited opening time on Sundays. There is also to be a car park on site that wil hold between 200 to 300 cars once built.
The station will be located on the Preston to Manchester Line near to Euxton Junction which links Manchester with the West Coast Main Line. As such the station will see three train services an hour in each direction, two Northern services (Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria and Preston to Hazel Grove) and one TPE service (Blackpool North to Manchester Airport). This however is subject to change as per the new timetable which comes out in December 2008.
The name of the station is yet to be confirmed and in documentation is still referred to as Chorley Buckshaw Village however it is widely believed that the 'Chorley' reference will be dropped. It was also believed at first that the new station was to become the village of Euxton's second station, along with Euxton Balshaw Lane, however it appears the local council wish to go with the new name Buckshaw.
