Buck Barrow

Marvin Ivan "Buck" Barrow (March 14, 1905-July 29, 1933) was the older brother of Clyde Barrow of Bonnie and Clyde fame. Buck was the third of eight children born to Henry and Cummie Barrow. His early ventures into crime included stealing roosters and cars. Buck, like four of his siblings, served time at a young age in the Texas prison system. After being released, Barrow married Blanche Caldwell in 1931. He had been married and divorced twice previously, and fathered twin sons with his first wife (one of boys died as an infant) and a daughter with his second wife. In 1932, Buck walked off of an honor farm where he had been sentenced for auto theft, but Blanche convinced him to turn himself in and complete his sentence. Upon his release, Buck and Blanche joined up with Bonnie and Clyde and participated in several armed robberies.
[edit] Murder
After joining forces with Clyde, Bonnie and W.D. Jones, Buck participated in a shootout with law enforcement officers at Joplin, Missouri, in which two officers were killed, and another shootout at tourist cabins Platte City, Missouri. Previously, Buck was thought to be responsible for killing Alma, Arkansas Town Marshal Henry Humphrey.
[edit] Death
Buck was seriously wounded in the head during the Platte City shootout. He was further wounded in the back during a shootout in a field near Dexter, Iowa. He died of his injuries at Kings Daughters Hospital in Perry, Iowa on July 29, 1933. He shares his tombstone with his brother Clyde.
