[edit] History
A founding member of the K-League in 1983, the team originally called Yukong Elephants has lifted the K-League Championship on only one occasion in 1989.
At the end of 1995 the side moved from the Dongdaemun Stadium in Seoul to the Mokdong Stadium on the very western edge of Seoul, and renamed themselves Bucheon Yukong after the city of Bucheon, only 10 miles from the Mokdong Stadium.
Mid-way through the 1997 season the club rebranded itself as Bucheon SK, and at the start of the 2001 season moved to the 35,545 seater Bucheon Stadium.
On october 31st 2003, SK announced that they want to sell this team. During this period, they sold all key players and that caused bad results and low attendance. In 2001, average attendance was 27003 for cup tournament and 19471 for league games despite they reached 7th place of 10 clubs. Highest attendance record was on august 11th in 2002, 38833 crowds entered stadium. In 2003 season, they couldn't win for 22 games. This is the worst record in K-League as same as Daejeon Citizen's. This season's average attendance was 5577.
In 2004, they got lowest place in K-League, but reached FA Cup Final and lost in a penalty shoot out. This season's average attendance was 2175.
Bucheon's last season(2005), they reached second place in second round of K-League. The average attendance of second round was 4803.
[edit] Surprise move to Jeju Island
In 2006, owners SK made the surprise decision to relocate to Jeju without any fore notice and renamed the club Jeju United FC. They became second relocated club after FC Seoul. It can be compared with the Milton Keynes Dons FC's franchising move. The fans of Bucheon FC are insisting Jeju United FC is not the successor of Bucheon FC and trying to found a new Bucheon FC now.
Following the move, former fans of Bucheon FC began a movement to establish a brand new Bucheon side. The initial goal was to create a team for participation in the 2007 Korea National League season, however they have since readjusted their goals and are aiming for participation in the 2008 K3 League.
