In .hack//Sign, BT focuses her attention on finding the Key of the Twilight and seems to be the least concerned with Tsukasa's predicament. She starts to work with Sora and Crim to achieve her goal. Eventually their search leads them to the Cathedral at Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground. She opens the Twilight Eye, and goes through the gate along with Crim.

They get to an upside down dungeon and head for the place the Key of the Twilight supposedly is. As part of a plot to get the legendary item for herself, BT sets Sora after them. This forces Crim to stop and fight against Sora, leaving BT alone in the race for the Key. What she discoveres there, however, is not the Key but an AI copy of Harald. Unable to understand what the AI has told her, she gets out of the dungeon, where she is met by Tsukasa, Bear, and Mimiru. Mimiru demands to know what has happened. BT just points in the direction of the AI's chambers, telling her to see for herself.

Without any more leads the search for the Key seems over. BT attempts to start a relationship with Crim in real life but is rejected, and she ends up venting her anger on Subaru. This makes Subaru realize that she may not be able to play the two roles: Subaru, the leader of the Crimson Knights, and Subaru, the ordinary player. This conversation is one of the things that influences Subaru to disband the Knights permanently. Depressed, BT briefly considered quitting The World but decides against it as she becomes a bit sympathetic with Tsukasa's situation, after he saves her from a group of PKs.

With Bear keeping her informed of Tsukasa's situation, BT is eventually called in to help with the plan to awaken Aura. She helps out by defending both Tsukasa and Subaru from a Twilight Guardian.

[edit] .hack//Games

A ghost version of BT can be found wandering around the Root Towns during .hack//Outbreak. Aside from that she only appears in memory fragments that are discovered by Kite.

BT travels to a bar in Carmina Gadelica and meets up with Subaru and Mimiru. She makes fun of Mimiru while they wait for Tsukasa, Bear, and other characters from .hack//Sign and the .hack//Games.

The last one to get there is Bear, who apologizes to BT as she teases him and asks about his work. Later they travel to Net Slum, to join a celebration hosted by Helba. At the party she hangs out with Bear most of the time. When the others go off to dance, BT links her arm with his and they both smile. Later, during the fireworks his arm is around her shoulders. It has been suggested by some that this, and the conversation earlier at the bar, alludes to a possible romantic relationship outside of the world by this point in the story.

A former model in real life, who now makes a career at a dispatch company in the Touhoku region. She lives alone in an apartment, and seems to have little interest in meeting with her old colleagues as it's shown in episode 17 Conflict when she tears the invitation letter of a class reunion into pieces. The envelope of that letter gives her given name as Machiko. Her family name is unknown.

She named her character after her favorite food, the B.L.T. (bacon, lettuce, and tomato) sandwich, minus the L for lettuce, a food she hates even though it doesn't have a particular taste or smell.[1]

[edit] Notes and references

  1. ^ BT: "It's lettuce." Tsukasa: "Lettuce?" BT: "There's not enough taste to dislike it, and there's not smell to it. Most people say that. But I dislike it because I dislike it." .hack//Sign, episode 17, Conflict.
