[edit] Help with comparison

I don't use this player, but since it has manifested its own article I think someone here who does know about it should add it to the Comparison of media players article. Even if you can't fill in all of the information at least start a row for each section and fill in what you know, then you or someone else can fill in the empty cells later. --Kamasutra 19:08, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

I have found it an excellent player though that is original research. It can do screenhots in jpg format and none of my other ones can so I would rate it high on any list.--Dakota ~ ° 07:08, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
No need to worry as it has since been added, but improvement is always welcome. --Kamasutra 08:59, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Is it commercial now or not?!?

I obtained a copy of the "pro" version that you are "supposed" to buy. When you play a video, it says "Free for non-commercial use" right on the screen. So is it free or not? Am I breaking the "rules" by downloading it via BT without paying? I would love to add something to the article to this effect .. "Curiously, the Pro version states in the top-left of the video window for a few seconds that it is 'free for non-commercial use' when a video is played". Without objections I'll add this to the text shortly. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.141.54.178 (talkcontribs) 14:54, 15 July 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Adware

Adware's a feature? When did that happen! The one bit NOONE wanted is a Feature?? CoolChris 07:46, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

BS.Player will not work if the user removes WhenU

Correction: BSPlayer versions above v1.39 will not work if the user removes WhenU

This is original research. I will post here sayings of other people if I Google up any. -- J7n 09:03, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Oh, so I WONT download BSPlayer! CoolChris 17:53, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Me too. I wanna products for free!!! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 201.19.160.5 (talk) 23:15, 2 April 2007 (UTC).

I couldn't believe it when I saw adware listed as a "feature". I mean seriously, wtf? Feature implies something good, something people actually want. Not one single person in the entire world -wants- adware in the programs they install. What makes it even worse is that the free version is BOTH feature limited (true features, not adware) AND adware supported. One or the other is bad enough, but both is just plain BS. Then again, since the program is named BSplayer, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Cypherswipe 21:45, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of supported file extensions

I think it is meaningless to list the media file formats (extensions) that this player is capable of displaying. BSPlayer will render almost any file for which DirectShow can provide filters. BSPlayer is basically just a GUI frontend to DirectShow and does not render any media type, except subtitles, by itself. This page says that BSPlayer does not support Musepack, AAC, AC-3, APE or FLAC audio. While, for example, MP3 is reported as "supported". For all above media types I have installed decoders and could play files in these formats in BSPlayer if I wanted to.

Moreover there is no such format as DAT (means just "data", any kind of data). I believe you are referring to MPEG-1 video on Video CDs. The same goes for three letter file extension MPG used for files containing MPEG video.

[edit] Recent edits

I am concerned about a change which is being repeatedly made to this article, especially one which removes all the wiki links on the file types. Wiki links are one of the foundations of Wikipedia, so there needs to be a good reason to remove them. My feeling is also that the article was being rewritten to look like an advertisment, with POV phrases like "easy to use". I don't want to get drawn into an editing war, and the editor is simply redoing the edits with no edit summary. Comments? Notinasnaid 15:34, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Origin of the name?

Anyone knows why it's called "BS"?

Also, should we include bugs? V. 1.39, the last adware-free version, won't keep a selected aspect ratio that differs from the one of the videostream - it resets the ratio each time you scroll back or forward.--Cancun771 (talk) 18:59, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

- BS stands for BullShit (Player), i'am not joking. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.154.235.132 (talk) 19:22, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] May someone please make this more clear that this is harmful?

There's not much information on this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.72.82.183 (talk) 06:23, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
