[edit] Career

Wenzel has worked for various independent wrestling promotions across the United States, particularly in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, for such groups as World Xtreme Wrestling, East Coast Professional Wrestling, and Jersey All Pro Wrestling. While on the independent wrestling circuit, he was part of a successful tag team in the Moondogs lineage known as Moondogs 2000 alongside Molsonn. Wenzel later achieved success teaming with Danny Giamondo as The Hybrid in Jersey Championship Wrestling.

In 2006, he began wrestling for Ohio Valley Wrestling as Alexei Strongkov, a Russian shoot fighter gimmick. Shortly thereafter, Wenzel re-debuted on OVW television in his current gimmick as Mr. Strongko, the Sambo trainer of Boris Alexiev. However, after Alexiev was called up to WWE's main roster, Wenzel left OVW by late 2006 to early 2007.
