[edit] List of recordings preserved in the United States National Recording Registry

I apologize for my belated response to your question. I had to look back at the edits to see what the problem was, which I should have identified in the edit summary at the time. My fault.

It appears that you are lifting text word for word from the NRR website. Since this is a Library of Congress, and thus US federal government, publication, you are probably (but not always!) free of any copyright concerns. However it is not permissible to do this on Wikipedia without identifying the source of the text. For example, instead of saying, as the article does now:

For the purposes of recording selection, "sound recordings" are defined as works that result from the fixation of a series of musical, spoken, or other sounds, but not including the sound component of a moving image work, unless it is available as an autonomous sound recording or is the only extant component of the work.

you should instead say something like:

According to the National Recording Preservation Board, a "sound recording" includes "are defined as works that result from the fixation of a series of musical, spoken, or other sounds, but not including the sound component of a moving image work, unless it is available as an autonomous sound recording or is the only extant component of the work."

Please let me know if you have any more questions. Gamaliel 20:43, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Note that I've also deleted Around the World on the Phonograph because the article mostly consisted of plagiarized or copyvio text. Gamaliel 20:47, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:IMG 0829.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:IMG 0829.JPG. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:06, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
