Bruce Armistead Smathers (born 1943 in Miami, Florida, United States) was a member of the State Senate and then was elected to and served as Florida Secretary of State from 1975 - 1978. After serving as Secretary of State he launched an unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign losing to Bob Graham. He is the son of George Smathers, former U.S. Senator for Florida. Smathers was the youngest member ever of the Florida Cabinet at his time of entry. Smathers earned an undergraduate degree from Yale University and a law degree from University of Florida.
