Bruce Jurgens (born July 11, 1965 in San Diego, California, United States) is an award-winning visual effects supervisor and filmmaker with over twelve years of feature film production experience. He has a major role in award-winning production in Hollywood amongst the world's most dedicated visual effects artists.
His creativity and insight into Computer Generated Imagery or CGI technologies has taken him to work in different world-class film studios all over the world Prague, London, Miami, France, Poland. He is currently working in Europe, mostly Poland and France. His goal is to raise the production level in the visual effects and animation industry, especially in Poland, where he feels he can use a potential of highly talented Polish artists.
As many innovative filmmakers, Bruce's passion for visual effects and animation dates back to his youth in Washington DC and Baltimore where as a college student he started creating his own WAY. While all the students were filming self-suicides shorts - Bruce discovered that he likes to experiment with stop motion to achieving visual effects similar to the early Starwars films. So he did his first short film with stop motion and time labs while filming with a 8mm film camera that he retrofitted. This was when the love for the visual effects and animation was born.
Few years after he was shooting television commercials and pilots as a director of photography on 16mm and 35mm on the east coast of the US. He was still feeling that he wants to do something more challenging, so he started studying Computer-generated imagery or CGI by himself and working night in post-production shops, watching Brazil and Blade Runner over and over and trying to find how to do it on his computer. The CGI guy was born.
His first few CGI films were simple wire-frame experiments and animation of 2d and 3d elements that were later used for several national advertising campaigns for MCI and BMW.
Bruce specializes in design of complex visual effects sequences, directing heavy / intensive effect on both "A" level feature films and nationally broadcast commercial campaigns.
Recently he completed work on Open Session and Monster House at Sony Pictures in Los Angeles. At another top of the line studio Digital_Domain, Bruce was the Senior Technical Director on Rob Cohen feature Stealth. Other work includes The Day After Tomorrow, Babe, and X-Men at Cinesite Hollywood.
He has two children: Charles-Louis and Gabriel.
