[edit] Rename to Brother of Jared

Is it appropriate to list this individual as "Mahonri Moriancumer" rather than as the "Brother of Jared"? As noted in the article, he is referred to as the brother of Jared throughout the text of the BofM, and Joseph Smith's disclosure of his full name is, in my view, simply a footnote or an aside. Many, if not most, readers of the Book of Mormon are unaware of this name. Other views? --andersonpd 19:05, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

"Brother of Jared" does redirect to here, so people will find it. It is ambiguous as to what name to use for articles about people. Let's wait until we get some more people to give input. Val42 06:42, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
I realize this is kinda old news, but I'll give my opinion. All current Church literature, including seminary manuals, reference him as "the brother of Jared," as does the book itself. I would have to second andsersonpd on this one, therefore, because this name for the brother of Jared is both non-canonical (though a disputation of its validity is irrelivant---Joseph Smith likely did mention this, and it has been echoed by Joseph F. Smith) and not widely known by members of TCoJCoLDS or others who read the Book of Mormon. To hear it mentioned at Church, for example, I would likely tune it out as just another one of many "folk" doctrines---unimportant and/or misleading teachings deep in Church history. I vote to change it. --Bruce 04:05, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
I also think Brother of Jared is the more standard, recognizable, and approriate title for this page.
I tried to do it, but because of the previous move from Brother of Jared, it is complicated. I've posted to get an administrator to fix it. Then we can restructure the article to fit the name that it should be. Val42 05:26, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
I posted to Wikipedia:Requested moves, but there is a backlog. I'm hoping that one of the LDS wiki administrators will see this discussion and fix it. Val42 05:36, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Though it is irrelevant now, I wish to state for posterity's sake that the name is in fact mentioned in the Book of Mormon seminary manual. Bruce 02:22, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
